How to Set the Date & Time on an NH35 Watch

Simple steps to keep your watch running precisely.

The NH35 is designed for reliability and ease of use, but like any mechanical watch, setting it correctly matters.

Follow the steps below to ensure accurate timekeeping and proper operation.

Before You Start

Make sure:

  • Your watch is fully wound (or has been worn for a few minutes)

  • The crown is clean and dry

  • You are working in a stable, well-lit area

Step 1: Unscrew the Crown (If Applicable)

If your watch has a screw-down crown:

  • Turn the crown counterclockwise

  • It will release and “pop” into the winding position

If your watch does not screw down, proceed to Step 2.

Step 2: Pull the Crown to Position 2

The NH35 has multiple crown positions:

  • Position 1 → Normal / winding

  • Position 2 → Date adjustment

  • Position 3 → Time setting

Gently pull the crown all the way out to Position 3.

You’ll notice:

  • The second hand stops (hacking function)

This allows precise time setting.

Step 3: Set the Time

Turn the crown to move the hands:

  • Rotate clockwise to advance time

  • Move past your desired time, then adjust back if needed

👉 Pro Tip: Always set the time forward when possible to maintain gear alignment.

Step 4: Push the Crown Back In

Once the correct time is set:

  • Push the crown back to Position 0

  • If screw-down: turn clockwise until snug

Do not overtighten.

Step 5: Rotate the Crown to Change the Date

Gently pull the crown all the way out to Position 2.

You’ll notice: The second hand will continue to run

  • Turn the crown (typically clockwise)

  • The date will advance one day at a time

👉 Continue rotating until the correct date appears

Important Tips

Avoid Setting the Date Between 9 PM – 3 AM

This is when the movement is engaging the date mechanism internally.

Adjusting during this window can cause damage.

If your watch has a screw-down crown

Ensure the crown is fully tightened to maintain water resistance.

Wind the Watch if Needed

If the watch has stopped:

  • Turn the crown (Position 1) clockwise ~20–30 times

This ensures proper power reserve.

Set Time Precisely

Use a reference (phone or atomic time) and push the crown in exactly when seconds align.

Common Mistakes to Avoid

  • Forcing the crown

  • Setting the date during restricted hours

  • Leaving the crown unscrewed (on screw-down models)

  • Rapid back-and-forth hand movement
